One of the most frequently prescribed anti-inflammatory drugs is Deltasone. Deltasone is available in the form of 20 mg tablets.

The primary active component of the drug is prednisone which is a synthetic analog of the hormone hydrocortisone and has a similar effect.

The primary functions of the drug are: anti-inflammatory, immunosuppressive, antiallergic, anti-shock.

Deltasone affects virtually all stages of the inflammatory process, suppresses the synthesis of inflammatory mediators and prevents the migration of cells of the immune system.

Deltasone retards sodium in the body, but it stimulates the excretion of potassium, reduces the mineralization of bone tissue and slows the absorption of calcium from the gastrointestinal tract.

Deltasone also has an immunosuppressive effect. It interferes with lymphocytes and their migration, reduces the intensity of antibody formation, blocks the release of interferons.

Antiallergic effect is manifested by a decrease in the secretion of inflammatory mediators, inhibition of release from mast cells of histamine, suppression of the activity of lymphocytes in the blood. Deltasone reduces the sensitivity of receptors in various tissues to mediators of inflammation.

The drug is most often used to relieve the symptoms of inflammatory processes of medium and high severity. These processes can be localized in the following parts of the body: musculoskeletal system, lungs, gastrointestinal tract, muscles, nervous system, leather, eyes.

The drug is also used in such a dangerous complication as cerebral edema. This condition can arise as a result of injuries, infectious and inflammatory processes, and surgical intervention.

The drug is also used for severe bronchial asthma, systemic connective tissue diseases (systemic lupus erythematosus, scleroderma, rheumatoid arthritis).

Deltasone in tablets has one dosage options – 20 mg.

The standard daily dose in tablets for most diseases is 20-30 mg. The maintenance dose is 5-10 mg. In severe cases, a dose exceeding the standard dosage may be prescribed up to 100 mg/day.

If the dose is small, then all the tablets are best taken in the morning. If the dose is significant, then it can be divided into 2-4 admission, with most of the daily dose taken in the morning.

The minus of the medication is its inherent effect of withdrawal syndrome. You shouldn’t abruptly stop a long course of treatment, since in this case, there may be a withdrawal syndrome, as well as an aggravation of the symptoms of the disease for which therapy was prescribed. It is necessary to reduce the dose gradually, until the body is accustomed to low doses of hormones that come with the medication, and will not switch to their own.

The medication cannot be used in all cases.
